Edward R. Maguire, Ph.D., Principal Investigator

Edward R. Maguire, Ph.D., Principal Investigator, is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Center for Violence Prevention and Community Safety. His research has examined police performance measurement, police innovation, perceptions of procedural justice and legitimacy, police response to gangs and gang violence, the impact of violent crime control initiatives, and police officer health and wellness. Dr. Maguire currently is carrying out research on the police response to protests, policing in Indian Country, and police and public health responses to the global pandemic. He has completed more than 60 media interviews and presentations since Floyd’s death. Dr. Maguire has held research positions at the U.S. Department of Justice and the United Nations and serves as the Chair of the Research Advisory Board for the Police Executive Research Forum. He has been CrimeSolutions’ senior researcher in Policing for more than a decade. In that capacity, he has conducted more than 100 law enforcement program reviews and 10 practice reviews.
