For the National Institute of Justice, DSG is investigating far-right terrorist groups in the United States and constructing an analytical framework that law-enforcement agencies and their partners can use to shape counterterrorism strategies tailored to each group’s tactics and environmental environment. In 2020, DSG began its GTTAC Speaker Series, which bridges this project with its global counterterrorism project for the U.S. Department of State.
Researchers’ understanding of what works in criminal justice, juvenile justice, and crime victim services continues to evolve. Unfortunately, research doesn’t always find its way to the right audience. For example, policymakers and practitioners may not have access to relevant research. Or when research is available, it may be hard to understand the results and apply those findings to practice. CrimeSolutions was created to help bridge this research-to-practice gap.
In 2018, DSG created the Global Terrorism Trends and Analysis Center (GTTAC) to support its contract with the U.S. Department of State, to develop a database of global terrorism incidents, to prepare the annual Annex of Statistical Information on Terrorism, and to help prepare and edit the congressionally mandated Country Reports on Terrorism each year. In 2020, DSG began its GTTAC Speaker Series, which bridges this project with its domestic project for the National Institute of Justice.
Connecticut is the latest state to ask DSG to perform a critical evaluation of its juvenile justice system, work it has done for several other jurisdictions, most notably for Colorado and Baltimore. The depth of this work has been tantamount to auditing at the states’ behest.
Through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP’s) Faith- and Community-Based Youth and Violence Prevention Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Project, DSG brokered, coordinated, and provided relevant TTA to grantee sites in OJJDP’s Youth Violence Prevention portfolio. DSG collaborated with the National Gang Center to organize the October 2019 OJJDP Grantee Meeting: Comprehensive Approaches to Gang Violence Prevention and Suppression, held in Pittsburgh, Pa.
