Department of Education Evidence Review and Support

For the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES), DSG supports the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC). IES established the WWC (www.whatworks.ed.gov) in 2002 to provide educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public with a central and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education to improve student outcomes.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The U.S. Department of Education’s (ED’s) What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) serves as an authoritative voice on evidence regarding the efficacy of education programs, practices, and policies in prekindergarten through postsecondary education. For the Reviews, Reporting, Dissemination, and Development (R2D2) project, DSG works with ED’s Institute of Education Sciences to update current WWC products by integrating new studies into the evidence base, to disseminate new products that explain how to use WWC products, and to conduct evidence reviews for grant competitions so that ED can fund projects with evidence of effect.

DSG has been tasked with expanding the WWC into postsecondary education. DSG and our team of reviewers assess the evidence of effectiveness available for postsecondary programs, policies, and strategies and disseminate information on the level of evidence through a variety of products, including Quick Reviews, Single Study Reviews, Intervention Reports, Review Protocols, and Practice Guides. DSG works closely with IES to identify ways to reach practitioners and policymakers interested in issues related to postsecondary education.
